Leech Pattern
Hook - Gamakatsu Saltwater Series Bonefish Hook / Model SL45 (Size 6)
Bead Head - Tungsten (3/16")
Thread - UTC Ultra Thread (Rusty Brown/140 Denier)
Tail - 1/8" Wide Rabbit Zonker Strip (Black)
Body - Fly Tying Dungeon Leech Dubbing (Custom Blend of Many Colors)

I really like using the FTD leech dubbing. It is a very fine synthetic dubbing, which sheds water nicely. This helps keep reduce the weight of the fly when it is soaking wet, making it easier to cast. I've tyed and fished variations of this pattern for a number of years. I used to tye it with all rabbit fur, but in recent years have transitioned to using the FTD leech dubbing because of how nicely it looks in the water (nice glint of built in flash) and movement of the longer fibers).

HELPFUL TOOLS:
Wasatch Mitch's Bobbin (makes terrific dubbing loop bodies)
Wide Clamp (in this case one of the SwissCDC clamps - I also like to use the new Loon dubbing brush tweezers)
Curved Dental Pick (helps pick out the body after wrapping)
Tooth Brush/Velcro (same)

Great job on the imitative leech pattern. Well done Ray.
Fly Tyers Dungeon has a vast array of synthetic materials . The possibilities are endless.
That is one beautiful smallmouth bass!

Ray, my wife is looking over my shoulder as I reread your post. She asks, "So, have you ordered any of that Leech Dubbing?" I sheepishly answer, "Well, yeah, I have. Just one bag of each color though." As she leaves she says, "I knew I should have kept you from playing with that Tucker boy. He's trouble." Then laughs all the way through the house.

Ray,
This tutorial is fantastic! What a great leach pattern! It has Smallmouth written all over it and low and behold, there is a dandy that you have caught! How thick and fine this fish is! How lively and real looking your patterns are especially this one!
Great job Ray! Oh, to be in your den when patterns like this are conceived and created!
