Betty's Fly

Post by Roadkill » Fri Oct 22, 2021 5:44 pm

I created this fly for my wife's friend Betty, who I just recently met. Betty gave me copy of A River Runs Through It as we were having lunch.

I thought I would thank her with a fly that runs through a river. She and her late husband were beginner fly tyers decades ago but never pursued it very far.

Hook-Dai Riki 899 #2
Thread- Purple Kinkame silk
Tag-Yellow Kinkame silk
Tail- a Topping
Butt-Ostrich
Body- Alec Jackson's Purple Silk Floss

;) Thanks Ray, but it really needed the 2 more coats of head cement after this photo to finish it. :)

Thanks everyone!!

Hank, I had the pleasure of meeting willowhead when he tied at the NW Fly Tyers Expo here in Oregon.

But the little I have learned about Full Dress fly tying has come mainly from meeting and watching some of the best Salmon Fly Tyers in the world at NW Expos and Shows over the last 20+ years. I dabble in some of these flies maybe once every 3 or 4 years, but the lessons learned from that practice sure makes tying flymphs and other flies easier ;)

Bill,
Wow! I am in awe of this fly's beauty! You did good on this one! I hope Betty will be in full appreciation mode when she receives this one! The colors are just spectacular!
