Doodlebug

“Jack” Schweigert originator

Hook - Mustad #94840, Sizes 8-10
Thread - Black
Tail - Red hackle fibers
Underbody - Yellow yarn
Overbody - Peacock herl
Ribbing - Oval silver or gold tinsel
Wing - Woodchuck hair
Hackle (crown) - Deer hair, shaped and trimmed into a top-knot

Jack’s Doodlebug can be fished either dry or wet and works on rivers, streams and ponds. Fast water or still, this is a great fly. Jack originally designed this fly as an attractor pattern to be used when there are no insects on the water. Jack developed this fly while in his original shop in Luzerne, Michigan.

This one brought a smile to my face. Such a fun pattern. Looking forward to fishing a "doodlebug".

PS - This will be a nice pattern to teach to kids too.
