I spoke of this at the forum Google meeting tonight.
In Europe Errica Danica or the green drake/ May Fly turns into the Grey Drake (our coffin fly) female and the Black Drake Male. I got this information and the dressing from my Copy of the Vade Mecum of Fly Fishing for Trout by G.P.R. Pulman. First published in 1841. Mine is a the 3rd edition 1851.

Hook. Mustad sneck bend 4972 size 8.
Silk. White.
Body. White silk.
Tail. Widgeon.
Rib. Black horse hair.
Wing. Widgeon.
Hackle. Dun (mallard over covert feather

What a striking pattern. Widgeon has such lovely barring. The black horse hair rib harmonies well with the widgeon.

That's a good looking fly. All the colors compliment each other very well.

How durable is the horse hair while tying? I would wonder it to be a tad brittle and break at times. Though I could be completely wrong.

The horse hair wraps as though it were silk!
