Stewarts winged fly #1.

Post by Updtate » Tue Apr 12, 2022 12:10 pm

Found this interesting.
Stewarts 1st winged fly called for a wood cock wing with a Hackle of landrail and a body of yellow silk.
I subbed American Woodcock over covert feather rolled for the wing and the reddish undercovert feather for the called for landrail hackle along with the yellow silk for the body. The hook is a Daiichi 1480 size 12 which is 2x short!
English Woodcock do not have the reddish Under covert feathers on them

I took one look at this fly and started daydreaming about how to fish it. I was hooked at first glance.

Fine work Tom.

Gorgeous Tom, so classic looking too! Stewart would be proud! I know we are!

Just a lovely wee fly, Tom. Did you use a bit of cellire to point the wing?
