I know the wings are wrong. I'm waiting to get some mallard speculum feathers so I can be more traditional. I have magpie that would probably work, but when tying this fly I totally forgot I had the magpie.

Hook: Partridge Sld2 #12
Thread: Black Uni 6/0
Tail: Red duck quill
Body: Silver tinsel
Ribbing: Silver oval tinsel
Beard: Black he hackle
Wings: On this fly dyed blue duck quill, but should be the speculum feathers from a mallard.

Fishnkilts,
You do it with such style....It is beautiful! Do you remember a tier named Don Bastian? Your pattern is reminiscent of the great wet fly work he used to do! Very much so!
Fine work friend! Keep it up!

I have heard of Don Bastian, but I don't know anything about him.

Thank you for your kind words. It builds confidence in me.

I looked up Don Bastian, and you humble me sir. He is a fantastic tyer and I am intimidated by how well he marries wings. That must take patience and skill.
All I can say is, I got lucky with this one.

I tried it with the wings more upward and with Veevus halo tinsel and it looked like garbage. So I used regular silver tinsel and lowered the wings and I must say I like this look so much better.
