Fox Hole Special

Attractor Fly Pattern

Hook - Mustad 3665A or equivalent, size 6-8
Thread - Black
Ribbing - Flat silver tinsel
Body - Black floss
Throat - Yellow bucktail
Underwing - Orange bucktail
Wing - White marabou
Shoulder - Mallard or teal flank
Eyes (optional) - Painted black over white

The Fox Hole Special is one of the better landlocked salmon streamers, and brook trout will take it as well. It’s a so-called attractor pattern, and best described as a dressed-up Black Ghost Marabou, with yellow and orange bucktail and a shoulder added, the latter to imitate a gill plate. The fly is easy to see, has great action, and is just different enough that it will catch fish in pressured waters where the fish see pretty much everything else. The Fox Hole Special is one of the top ten landlocked salmon streamers in Maine.

Great looking fly, Norm. I'll be adding a few to the box for those pressured areas I fish, like the East Outlet of the Kennebeck where they see a lot of Black Ghosts, Golden Retrievers and such. Beautifully dressed, as always.

That book is already on my Amazon wish list.

Beautiful attractor pattern Norm. I look forward to fishing some of these next spring.

Norm,
This is too much for my delicate system to handle! I have got to try this one soon! Your tying is so awesome! Please make more!
