Hackle - Deep wine, dark claret or black
Wing - Peacock sword - may have a dash of scarlet on each side

Trout - Ray Bergman

*The recipe in Bergman's book lists the ribbing and tag as optional

The Alexandra exists in numerous variations. It is a fly of English origin that was supposedly banned in fishing competitions at one time because of its killing effectiveness.

I’ve been waiting for this one. It’s one of my all time favorites. You’ve done such a nice job with the unruly sword fibers. You make it look easy, but I know from experience that the sword fibers have a mind of their own.

Good stuff Norm.

Norm,
I have to admit I've never tied nor fished this pattern. I have known about it for years but just never put it to use! Yours looks pretty good! The red stripe on the sides looks racy and will no doubt catch the attention of trouts in their elements! You are so right about peacock sword fibers! I think they look good even when they are running all over the place! Let's let the micro currents comb them into submission!
Great patterns friend! I really like your clean, tight style of tying!
Doug
Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.
