I like this pattern. I has a bugginess to it and reminds me a bit of the light cahill.

Uses fur from a fox's ear for the dubbing. The pattern recipe I had listed that as the dubbing. Funny enough I had a small container of dubbing from years ago lableled "fox (ear)". I was given a bunch of fox masks and was tired of storing them so I had taken dubbing from them and put it in containers labeled fox and where it came from on the mask.

Golly that's a pretty fly. It does look quite similar to the cahill dressing.

I've never come across a fox mask in any fly shops. Where would you find one these days?

I don't know about just the mask, but my local Gander Mountain carries (carried? It's been a while sins I've been in the store. They no longer carry tying materials.) complete skins over by the hunting equipment. They had fox, coyote, skunk and badger the last time I looked. Seems like they were 25 or 30 bucks apiece.

I have no idea where you would get one. Mine came from a friend who gave them to me. He ordered a full box of them off eBay. I think they came from Canada. There were natural colors and a ton of beautifully dyed purples, pinks, magentas, blues, yellow etc. As Kirk said you would have to go to buying a whole skin probably.

The Cahill style winged wet flies have found their place in a number of my fly boxes and quite often on my tippet. Now if I had some fox ear the "Old Man" would likely be yet another. Very nice tie there Carl.

Carl, this does have everything you could want and it's beautifully tied. I like this combination a lot. I have a number of these simple rolled winged patterns to test this season. This is a beaut.
