Scott, this is beautifully tied. Any idea where such a short, black pattern on a size 8 hook would be fished and how? Looks like a very meaty chunk of food stuff. Curious about its intended purpose.

Don Bastian's display winged wets are tied on #6 hooks as that's what the preferred size was back when wet flies were king. I use a 3399 when tying them for looks.

As Bill noted, this one was tied for show. In a smaller size, I'd try swinging it where caddis are emerging.

I wondered if that was the case. It's a lovely tie and a likely killer scaled to match insects. Thanks for posting this one.
