The wing on this fly calls for fieldfare rump.I substituted mountain quail rump because of its lovely brownish dun color.The legs are golden plover.The fly is tied on a size 16 Daiichi hook no.1480.

Can you tell us about this fly? Is this a Tummel style pattern? How did you tye in the wing?

Lovely wee wet. It reminds me very much of our friend Donald Nicholson’s flies.

And I can't imagine fieldfare (a close relative of the American robin) to be legal game anywhere.

The fly is a North Country pattern taken from T.E. Pritt's book North Country Flies plate no.1 fly no.6.

The link to an article about the Black Magic fly given by Harry; the author lists another fly called the July Dun. I found it interesting that the author mentioned California quail as a fieldfare substitute. While different, the feather was close enough for the author who used an actual fieldfare feather for his fly.
