I have great success for a good few years with the down wing wet fly pattern when fished on lakes when the Lake Olive is hatching. I’ve also had good success on moving waters, but I’ve never tied it with the up -wing, time to correct that now I’ve got a nice cape for the hackle and plenty of starling.
Thanks for reminding us of this wonderful pattern.

Love both fly fishing and fly tying, been doing it for a while

I think the original dressing by canon Greenwell did not call for a tail - later versions listed by others, an optional "whisk" was added.........
FWIW, for me, sans tail catch better..

Soft and wet - the only way....

Beautiful fly Tom. Is it meant to be fished dry or wet ?

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.
