Found this in Rob Smiths book The North Country Fly from the list of Willie Whitaker 1901 and thought it would be an interesting tie. I will try it on the Beaverkill this spring.

Hook. Daiichi 1480 size 12.
Silk. Orange Pearsalls Gossamer.
Body. Orange dubbed with watermouse. I used pine squirrel.
Wings. Moorcock slips.
Hackle. Freckled Moorcock.

If that doesn't catch fish, you're doing something wrong! What a great fishing pattern.

Can you post a picture of the moorcock skin (wing) you used for this fly? I'd like to give these a try.

Absolutely beautiful, perfect to the eye. Who cares about fish?
Wonderful hackle colour. Tom Whiting? Bah!!

Very nice, Tom. Knew it was you when I saw the hook. Your a bad influence, as I have laid in a supply of those sweet little hooks myself.

Ray, I'm pretty sure a Moorcock is the same bird as a Red Grouse, at least that's what Google said. It's a personal favorite of mine for tying.

So, I looked at this thread a couple of times, because I really like the dressing. Mid season, it would work quite well for the March Brown - so I think Iā€™m going to tie up a dozen or so, albeit one size larger...
Well done Tom!!
