The August Brown.

I found this pattern in Roger Foggs book A Handbook of North Country Trout Flies. It comes from J. Jackson The Practical Fly Fisher written in 1854( winged wet flies for rough streams). Found it very interesting.

August Brown.
Hook. Daiichi 1480 size 12.
Silk. Light Brown. I used Pearsalls gossamer 6b.
Tail. Grizzled hen.
Body. Lt. Brown silk.
Wing. Hen pheasant.
Hackle. Grizzled hen.

That's a very nicely dressed fly. I like it a lot. Did you lacquer the tips of the wings so they would hold their shape?

Thank you Ron I did not laquer the tips but perhaps as an experiment I will try that!

Using a bit of "Cellire" on the wing tips is a trick I got from John Reid's book Clyde Style Flies and Their Dressings. I used it when I was dressing a lot of Clyde and Tummel style flies.
