CDL winged soft hackle

Last summer I watched Old Hat working on a new pattern that utilized a Cog de Leon wing and hackle.
I don't know what he was attempting to create and got the impression it was a work in progress.
I took a stab at it and it made me think of a couple applications.

It might be a small caddis, a midge emerger, or maybe the small winter stoneflies we get out here.

Here's my take on your fly Carl and a couple prototypes of a winter stone imitation.

Ronr,
Your interpretations are beautiful! So crazy buggy looking! I'm thinking small caddis (emerger?). Carl's tying is out of this world good! I was just looking at some patterns that he sent me a while back! Wow! They are precision! Yours are the same way! Very pleasing to our eyes and also to the fishes!
Great job friend! Please keep them coming!
Dougsden!

I would fish those with complete confidence. Wonderfully buggy!

I like the sparser top left fly of the trio, and might try a little larger body in brown or black for little snow flies.

Bill, what my poor camera work doesn't show is the black thread bodies on the little stones...Brown would be good for sure...

Boarmountain... I like that fly. The wing certainly favors the caddis whether tied as a dry or in my case a cripple caddis, or emerger, or as Craig Mathews describes one of his flies "as possibly an caddis, mayfly, or stonefly cripple or emerger" its covering most of the bases.
