Lunch break caddis emergers

Post by ForumGhillie » Wed Dec 02, 2020 1:58 pm

So over lunch break today I started tying up some caddis emergers combining Sybai Super UV Dubbing (that I forgot I had purchased 2 years ago) in dubbing loop using my new OPST spinning tool. Then adding CDC under wing and a partridge hackle. I really like the OPST dubbing tool, thank you bocast for the suggestion.

John,

Those look great!

What is the significance of the 1 fly with the reddish-brown thread
head when all the others have olive?

Also, I couldn't find the tab I click on to send you my order!

Thanks everyone.

Ken, good eye!

Using this OPST dubbing loop tool is new to me, so I am trying different things. I am trying different thread colors to see if the thread color showed through the body, which it did not. That is what a wanted in the case, no thread color showing through the Sybai body, wet or dry.

I am really impressed with the Sybai dubbing in the dubbing loop for caddis emerger bodies. I was going through sorting one of my large dubbing containers and came upon 6 different colors of Sybai fine super UV dubbing I had purchased a couple of years ago. It works much better in a dubbing loop than trying to just twist on the thread with your fingers. Most dubbing synthetics I don't like but this one for caddis emerger patterns in a dubbing loop I do like so far. Hopefully, the trout feel the same way.

For me, the dubbing loop in the OPST spinning thingy is much faster for my old eyes than splitting thread.

Funny guy. I just checked Messenger, briefly chatted with you and Fly Shop Bob ended at 10:19AM.

Partridge Wet Heavy Supreme G3A/L. That is my favorite wet fly hook and I buy them from Dette Flies when he has a hook sale. I believe they are 3X heavy and 1X short.

I think they look awesome and the one with the reddish head I like the best because it stands out and still goes with the color scheme.

I also use Partridge hooks. The SUD2's and G3A/LY's are my go to wet hooks along with the Partridge PWW hooks.
