Lead Wing Coachman

Post by FlyFisherMann1955 » Mon Dec 21, 2020 9:46 pm

Here is my version on a classic old wet fly pattern. I think the last time I tied a quill wing wet, Jimmy Carter was president and I was 20 years old!

Thread: Black
Tag/Rib: X-small gold wire
Body: Peacock (2 strands)
Hackle: Brown hen (Collins)
Wing: Mallard
Head Cement (H&H)

I need to try some more patterns with this type of wing.

An oldie & a goodie! Nice job.

I’ve always loved this pattern. Our friend Tim Didas ties these fairly large and has done very well with them. I think he uses Canada goose quill for the wings in the larger sizes.

Nice Leadwing ! I hear positive things about the Collins hen cape. I don’t own any
but I have about a 9 or 10 rooster capes that I’m happy with and I’m always talking
them up.
