Merry Christmas Candy Cane fly.

Post by Updtate » Thu Dec 24, 2020 8:35 am

Happy Holidays and a very happy Christmas Eve to all. This fly the Candy Cane reminded me of Christmss Eve at my Grandmothers house when I was small. She always had ribbon candy cane treats in a green carnival glass bowl on the table . My favorite as a young child. In Actuality this fly is the Parmachenie Beau from Trout by Bergman.

Hook. Mustad 3906B size 12.
Tail. Scarlet and white mallard married.
Tip. Black ostrich.
Rib. Silver tinsel.
Body. Pale yellow floss.
Hackle. Scarlet and white mixed.
Wing. White with a scarlet stripe married.

Ribbon candy... my Grandmother and Dad always had ribbon candy each Christmas. Loved that stuff. Carnival glass makes me think of my Mom.

One of my Christmas gift as a kid was a set of winged wet flies. The Parmachenie Beau was one of the flies in the set. I may still have a few of those old flies squirreled away somewhere.

Merry Christmas and thanks for the happy memories.

Tom, I think our Grandmothers were related. Ribbon candy in a green carnival glass bowl. It was in the center of the table so it was hard for kids to reach. I was allowed one piece before dinner, and a small piece at that.

Your fly is beautifully dressed. Lovely married tail and wings.

That's a beautiful pattern. You did a remarkable job on it with the sizing of the wings and tail.
