I am looking for a thinner for CELLIRE Varnish no.1 clear (FINE). Due to the new regulations I cannot purchase the recommended Unitit thinner from Veniard’s! Is there a product here that is compatible ? I have the old formula that contains Toluene.
Thanks ,
Lou

				Have you tried mineral spirits?
Naptha may also work.

I use a lacquer thinner, which contains toluene and acetone. Veniards Celaire used to be a favor of mine. However, I stop using it once it be a came difficult to obtain.
Best of luck on your search.

				Lou, Dana--
You can still get Cellire, Unitit thinner, and Liquid Wax from UK sellers--just ask around a bit. I recently added to my stash so I have enough for the next five years or so.

Like Dana says, there's Tuleone in Unitit--also methyl acetate in the new formula--but it all works well, and a little goes a long way.

Like I said, just ask around a bit--surface shipping takes a longish while, but I can say it's worth the wait.

Cellire can be thinned with toluene. Hard to find but a good old school hardware store should have it. I recently got four bottles from the vendor below. Total equaled about $6 bucks a bottle.
Truth be told, I still mainly use nitrocellulose lacquer I bought from Rockler. I also use a concoction I made from Ambroid glue and toluene. Really does a good job holding the threads together.
Where I got the Cellire:
