While surfing the internet last week, I came across an excellent Spider Fly reference list. The reference sheets were created by John Shaner (Greenwell), who offers them to people who attend his presentation at the Fly Shows.

Excellent references, many thanks to John.

But I want to add one more place to the list: the Catskill Flyfishing Center & Museum, which has been of one of my best resources for finding old materials. Many people leave items to the museum, and some of them are put up for sale in the store.

Recently, I have picked up Piersal‘s silk, a few old hooks, snipe wings, brown owl, seal and heron to name but a few. Last year I found a bunch of spools of white silk from Reed tackle, size 6/0and 8/0 unused!

It’s a great institution, every dollar spent there helps them, and ultimately US out.

Bumping for Ron, due to interest in leader formulas. John’s formula is one of the best I’ve used (see download above).
