I was thinking the same thing (Brama hen - perhaps dyed golden). I think I have the same one stashed away somewhere.

No, it is not a Brahma and it is not dyed. I don't buy Whiting Brahma hen capes. I have never really liked them.

I don't remember where I bought it. My guess is a Charlie Collin's hen cape that I might have purchased from Great Feathers several years ago.

I just bought another hen cape off of eBay early this morning that might be exactly the same colors as this one. The one on eBay the guy called it brown and ginger hen cape. Anxious to see next week what I get for $12.00. Hopefully, it is the same as the one I have.

I was thinking a dark list honey dun, though the tips aren't quite right for that.

Mike,

I have never liked Whiting hen capes, so it is now breed into me. The barbules are either too stiff or the feathers are too short and stubby for my liking. I like hen feathers that a relatively elongated and soft fibers that move in the water and have the colorations I want. I do use a lot of partridge and grouse feathers which are fairly short and stubby, but I have no choice.

I know Whiting hen capes are getting better but I still prefer Collins and some of Metz hen capes and hen saddles. I have also purchased some really great hen capes from UK fly shops. I think they cater more to the soft hackle / wingless wet fly tiers then most US fly shops do.

I have 3 Whiting 4B hen capes I got from Jim at Campfire Lodge and occassionally I pull them out, look at them and then put them back in my drawer. I will probably sell them soon since I don't use them.

Gotcha. I don't mind them. I have a bunch of old Metz hen capes from the 80's that I use too. I do wish whiting were a little more webby, but it is what it is. I do use the whiting cdl hen capes quite a bit. Very buggy.
