YLI Silk thread junkie

Ok, I know I got carried away, but I wanted to see the colors upfront and close.

I really enjoying tying with silk thread with Bailey's wax and no bobbin. With 200 meter spools i doubt I will run out very soon.

$6.25/spool (200 meters = 656 feet)

For comparsion between some colors of Pearsall Gossamer and YLI and close up of the YLI colors I created this page... https://wiflyfisher.com/YLI-Silk-Thread-Review.asp

John,

Any chance you could post a list of YLI silk numbers (color names) as they correspond to the list of silk numbers (color names) for Pearsall's Gossamer?

Thanks- Ken

Thanks for posting those color numbers so they can be clearly read. YLI silks are nice to tie with, though I can see myself respooling onto Pearsall's bobbins so I can use my Wasatch minibobbins. Now where did I put that credit card...

Ken,

I don't have all the colors of Pearsall's Gossamer nor did I buy the YLI silk for that reason. This is the first Winter where I have really gotten into tying with silk thread, Bailey's wax and no bobbin. Creating spiders and other wingless wets that I feel imitate the insect hatches that I fish. I am not tying to be historically correct, nor do I refer to the patterns I tie as the historical patterns.

YLI has several purple shades and none of them really match Pearsall's Gossamer purple. Same with Pearsall's Gossamer Hot Orange versus YLI orange shades of silk thread, they do not match. IMHO, the YLI colors are not the same as Pearsall Gossamer colors, but I don't care and I don't believe the trout will care either.

John - Where did you buy these? Did you get all these colors as a set, or buy them individually? Either way, the colors cover a large range of insects. I wish I could sit across the table and watch you tie. Hopefully someday.

Johnno - I think one of posts in a separate thread included a Pearsall's/YLI silk comparison table. If I can find it, I will post a link here.

YLI 218 looks pretty darn close to Pearsall's Gossamer Olive #16.

Thanks for the comparisons.

Nice one, John. Also, Kimono Silk #367 "Teriyaki" is a good sub for Pearsall's 6B, Sherry Spinner.
