Good looking fly. So I have to ask. Since Golden Plover is about impossible to get does anyone know of a suitable substitute? Thanks.

It's not impossible to get but you need to get on Cookshill's waiting list and be patient.

This seller offers Golden Plover skins once in a while:

I have bought snipe and wild wabbit from him that have been of good quality. I bought my plover from Cookshill.

Wonderful pictures and good looking fly. Nice to see when things are starting to ice up around here.

Doug, I think part of what makes golden plover so special and desirable is the fact there really is not a good substitute for it (at least from a human artistic perspective). From a functioning perspective probably a lot of hackle you could use. Best bet would be to play with different dyed colors of starling.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Thanks guys for the answers to my question about Golden Plover. I've never even seen the feathers in person. I'll keep an eye out for some and get on Cookshill's list. From photos I've seen of flies tied with it it is a beautiful feather. Feathers really are some of natures most beautiful creations.
