Oversized Softhackle

If you have never used over sized soft hackle on Woolly Buggers, i highly recommend trying it.

Rooster Pheasant Church Window feathers, the largest hackles on hen capes and saddles, or those huge partridge feathers some of us have troubles finding a productive use for.

No palmered hackle on the Woolly Bugger. Just one, two, or three over sized hackles as a collar.

I have found them extremely effective in the past and the present.

Those feathers make pretty good "fins" on sculpin patterns too...

Wayne - Could you share an example of your favorites? I’d like to see them.

I remember when we really had to do that!

My best producing Wooly Bugger , Sunday was a Olive Tail, Pecaock body. I used two of the largest Brahma hen neck feathers off an Olive dyed cape as the collar. I nymphed with them while floating the Murky watered Colorado River below Glenwood Springs.

I tied the exact same pattern for my brother-in-law, except I used pheasant Church Window feathers..

The two of us landed alot of large Rainbows.
