This seller offers Golden Plover skins once in a while:

I have bought snipe and wild wabbit from him that have been of good quality. I bought my plover from Cookshill.

Wonderful pictures and good looking fly. Nice to see when things are starting to ice up around here.

Doug, I think part of what makes golden plover so special and desirable is the fact there really is not a good substitute for it (at least from a human artistic perspective). From a functioning perspective probably a lot of hackle you could use. Best bet would be to play with different dyed colors of starling.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Thanks guys for the answers to my question about Golden Plover. I've never even seen the feathers in person. I'll keep an eye out for some and get on Cookshill's list. From photos I've seen of flies tied with it it is a beautiful feather. Feathers really are some of natures most beautiful creations.

John, that is one good looking pattern !
Are you using Pearsalls or YLI silk?

The spun bodies look great John. You are now a fully trained and certified practitioner in the use of the William Anderson Clark Spinning Block :D ;) ;) ;) .

P.S. Certification certificate to follow promptly by snail mail.

ForumGhillie wrote: Tue Nov 19, 2019 11:48 am So while playing with various dubbing mixes I decided to try tying 2 soft hackles from the same dubbing rope. Starting one at one end of the rope, cutting off in the center after wrapping on the hook shank and then starting the second fly from the other end of the dubbing rope. In this way I am wasting less of my Pearsall's Gossamer silk thread.
I've been doing that for a while.

It helps if you keep that cut half of the rope in a hackle pliers until you need it for the next fly.

It still uses more thread than a dubbing loop.
