No, they work anytime Caddis are present. I should say when trout are keying on Caddis.

I saw a video last year, I think it was a "tightlinevideo" for a soft hackled OC, so I had to order the materials to tie a few. Now have enough to probably tie a 100+ of these:

I tend to over hackle but here's the link to the video for the materials...... basically hackle, gold wire and thread. I used an orange thread instead of brown.
