Spectrum Caddis

First, I want to thank ronr for inspiring me with the step by step fly project he has been working on. Secondly, I want to thank Carl for his lovely dubbing technique...

I thought about this while awake too early yesterday. ;) I decided to ties some flies with the technique but add in another layer of color to the fly. Forum members all know about the use of color, thread under color, and translucence in tying Hidy's flymphs.

The brown bands on the partridge hackle is wonderful, and really harmonizes well with the body color.

Good stuff!

Bill,
This pattern is awesome! So well constructed and balanced! It looks real!
I can't wait for the next installment!

Here is another bug that illustrates the under-color effect a little clearer.

Hook-Wholesale Fly Company Model 28 #10
Thread- UTC 70 Rusty Brown
Body- 1st Dubbing; F Chartreuse egg yarn/10% trilobal nylon twisted on the tying thread, 2nd Dubbing; Natural Hare's Ear applied as Carl's flat carpet in a dubbing loop
Rib-S Gold Ultra Wire
Hackle- Speckled Brown Hen

When wet the dubbing, trilobal nylon and rib bounce sparkles of light and color through and around the moving fly. I believe the effect is similar to the wet fly effects that LaFontaine and Hidy sought with their dubbings.
