I finally got a chance to watch this outstanding video. Extremely well done. Great techniques too.

Great techniques too.
How he "carded" the dubbing was a new one to me--I can definitely see using that method for prepping Leisenring dubbing brushes in the future. :)

I learned the carding technique from our Mark Libertone. It works great for Leisenring/Hidy style bodies.

"carding" is the technique of pulling the dubbing to align the hair fibers so the are parallel. In broader terms, the technique is use to process raw wool for yarn making.

Excellent, I've been pondering how to refine my "flymphing" technique (though I'm a bit too ADHD-y to lay everything out on my pants leg. )

Jon - I made a Clark's dubbing block to make the Leisenring style bodies. I find it a little easier than forming them on my pants leg. The dubbing block holds my waxed silk, leaving both of my hands free to wrestle the dubbing into submission.

I made a Clark's dubbing block
I hacked together one myself for IBF #16, then "volumized" the brush using Hidy's method of rolling it on a piece of fabric. (I'm looking forward to borrowing (read: "stealing") my brother's router and making a little fancier one this winter. :) What's interesting is just how little fur you need with the doubled-over silk--which is another way of saying that everybody's swap fly from me will be a bit...thickish up around the eye.
