LAW dubbing rake

i am looking to purchase a LAW dubbing rake, both coarse and fine. i have been looking for a while and can't find them anywhere. any help you can give me would be much appreciated. thanks. otto

Watch Ebay, I bought a set for #35.00, I think. You just have to watch as they don't come up very often.

Mark - I already have a metal dubbing rake, which works well. I was interested in the LAW's ceramic model simply because of the rave reviews it always got. Nothing against Wasatch. You know I love the Wasatch tools. Just had my heart set on the LAW's...

Not that I really need two dubbing rakes, either...

A question for you gents: what, exactly, are the advantages of using a rake to take dubbing off a pelt? (As opposed to cutting off a hank off the hide and sifting out the right combination of underfur and guard hair?)

Don't get me wrong: I'm going to want one now. I just want to know what to say to myself to make it so I can't live without one.

A dubbing rake simply makes the process a little easier. When you scrape it across a hares mask, the rake tends to pull up a blend of the underfur with very few guard hairs. For some reason, the guard hairs tend to stay on the mask, while the under fur is raked out. You can do the same thing with good old sissors and fingers. It will just take a little longer. I especially like using a dubbing rake with mole skins. One or two scrapes with the rake and you've got just the right amount of premixed dubbing for small wingless wet flies.

So to answer your question, you will save roughly 45 minutes per fly (exaggeration to help you justify the purchase).
