Mark, I see a definite improvement. Very nice work. I love this style of fly, don't ask me why, I just do. Very very nice body on the second, and the improved look of hackle... makes it a winner!!

Good on you, Mark! The first one, with the stiffer hackle, is pretty amazing for a first try IMHO. The second one is exceptionally appealing ... there's something about it that makes it look very much like an aquatic creature of some kind to me -- dragon/damsel fly perhaps? In any event, it sure didn't take you long to nail the style.

w-h, Howdy;

Looks like you are eliminating that space between the hackle and the eye ...

Keep it up and Misa will have you doin' all of her's for the team...

Just got a glimpse of the second Tenkara fly you posted. Awesome fly, Mark! Very buggy looking (sincere compliment). Love the segmentation and the way the bead makes the hackle flair forwards.

Thankx guys.....i really did not take my time with that body for the most part. i just grabed whatever was close by and handy.....and i do not think much of how the body came out actually. i love the idea of mixing the regular herl wth the bleeched and dyed stuff though.....twisting them together.....really works for me. The next one will be on a whole other level. All i was messin' with, was to see how different it might be to use a "soft" hackle this time instead of something as stiff as CDL rooster. And i gotta tell ya, it's much easier to work with.
When i tyed in the feather, i faced it the opposite way you normally would.....concave side (belly/shinny), towards the eye.....but i still wraped towards the eye. Next time i'm going to try tying it in a bit further forward, and wraping towards the bend.....ah, i just realised, if i do that, how will i tye it off? Well, i'll solve that problem when i get there.....BOY, there's a classic example of what the Master tyer Paul Rossman always says....."all fly tying is.....is problem solving." And he is dead right.
Obviously, i'll have to lock it in, whip it, cut off and then put the thread back where i can bring the hackle to it.....OR, perhaps i can just take the thread behind the feather (from underneath) once i have the tip locked in.....oh ****, should i be tyin' in by butt instead.....?.....specially if i'm gonna wrap to the rear? :lol: Dang, this stuff is fun. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. ;)
The bead on this one is not pushed forward to make the hackle go forward much at all.....maybe just a tiny bit.....but that was accomplished simply by the final wraps of herl behind the bead, not by actually pushing it forward. i snuged it, but not over top of the hackle. 8-)

Suggestions, but only because you asked, not because you need them.
1. Wrap the head
2. Wrap the hackle (each wrap behind prevous wrap)
3. Tie off hackle (on bend side of hackle) and clip
4. Tie in body (unless body is just tying thread)
5. Wrap thread to bend
6. Wrap body to bend
7. Tie off body, clip closely
8. Wrap over clipped end of body, making a thread tag out of your whip finish
