Hook - TMC 3761, Size 12
Thread - Griffith 14/0 Sheer Ultrafine PRIMROSE
Body - Thread Touch-Dubbed with Brown Possum
Thorax - Brown Possum
Hackle - Furnace Hen

Interesting experiment... Thanks for accepting.
To my 'getting an education" eyes
it appears the the body of the top fly
is thicker ... it may also just be the light is
affecting it.
The lower of the 2 has the appearance of a more defined thorax.

Really interesting how just the color of the tying thread can change the
appearance.

Subtle change, but I believe enough change to accomadate selective trout. Great patterns sir!

Rodger, these are great patterns. I don't get to use opposum enough. There is an endless number of comparitive posts I intend to pursue. This is one of them.

This is not a direct comparison, but close. As I was tying a set of the Partridge and Hare with Primrose Pearsall's silk, I tied another set with Griffith's 14/0 in brown. They both use what I labeled Hares Blend 3. I mixed it a few years ago and don't have a record of what's in it, but I know it is a blend of 3-4 different dyed hares masks, plus a pinch of antron...I think. Anyway. These are the same hackle and same dubbing blend. It would have been nice if the hook was the same. The difference might also be due to the nature of the dubbing loops. The primrose silk is a Leisenring style loop and the brown is a dubbing loop dropped from the bend.

I'd love to see a few more of these.

Thanks Rodger. I appreciate the extra effort that went into this comparison. I find myself especially drawn to the subtle warmth of the cinnamon version, but a doubt that the trout could resist any of them.
