I could only find one reference to the Hendrickson in Neme's Soft-Hackled fly imitations, but it was Ted Ward's Nymph and Emerger pattern from the Beaverkill.

• Hook: Mustad 94833
• Thread: Uni Dun 8/0
• Hackle: Grey Partridge
• Tail: 3 to 4 lemon wood duck barbs
• Body: Mixture of 2/3rds Sealex #110 and 1/3rd Sealex #117

Hi Mark,

It is not Nemes but in Fishing Flies and Fly Tying by William F.Blades are three patterns of a Hendrikson.

If you are interested I will copy the pages for you.

I am not familiar with the Orvis Sealex dubbing . This has made tying Neme's patterns without reference pictures difficult.

Mark - I found a reference to a Hendrickson pattern (Ephemerella subvaria) in Nemes book titled "Spinners" (page 100). His pattern is listed as follows:

Hook: Tiemco Model 109 BL, Size 11 or 13
Body: Flymaster tobacco brown with Orvis brown Flexi-Floss over [the thread]. Gold wire rib laid in the hollows of the Flexi-Floss. Brownish black thorax, tyed heavily (thorax material not listed - photo of sample fly shows heavy dubbing thorax).
Hackle: Golden yellow, honey dun or ginger.
Tail: Three long strands of golden pheasant topping.

The photos of the natural insect includes the comment "Note deep, rich, brown abdomen".

Thanks for the renewed interest in this thread. Both the fly Mike found and the one Ray posted seem like very interesting flies that very well might be worth a try come spring. I have always used very simple dressing of pheasant tail, ribbed with fine copper wire, gray dun hackle of some sort-hen, snipe, or gray starling. The thread used can be either brown or red-the latter representing the pronounced red eyes of the male.

Thank you mike for posting the color chart for Sealex Dubbing and a source for them. Now I can put the colors to the numbers in Neme's patterns in his books.

sometimes it's best to just go to the source. I couldn't find a Neme's pattern. But this pic is hard to beat.

I bought all of Neme's books one by one as they came out. I've read and reread them many times over,what bothered me was the sealex dubbing listed for some of the patterns. Didn't have a clue as to what colors the sealex #'s referred to
