I use my scissor tips to do the same thing. I don't "snip" the thread. Just vee the last 1/8". it has the benefit of only cutting items under tension. (Usually) It will occasionally grab a hackle barb and pull it tight and cut it.
I'll have to look and see if there is one in my wife's old manicure set.
