New Hackle Site

Post by Jim Slattery » Sun Apr 20, 2014 10:25 pm

For those who may be interested. The Campfire Lodge website now has a online shop. I think it might be unique in that you can see a hi res photo of the cape or saddle that is for sale. Many, many hours have gone into this site and we have finally achieved a long held goal. At the moment it is dry fly hackle but in the very near future we will have Hen capes and gamebird skins as well. Let us know what you think. Here's the link:

Just select a color, type or grade and you can see what is available. Click on the thumbnail and you will get a larger picture.

Wow! FANTASTIC JOB! It is easy to see that a lot of work went into that effort.

Yes, being able to see the actual cape/saddle I intend to purchase is a big plus. There can be significant variations from one, to the next. Seeing the one you want to buy, should give the buyer the best chance of buying what they want. I think this is especially true of colors.

I purchase dry fly capes, but for the past couple years, I purchase mostly soft hackles and game bird skins.

John S ~ I would purchase a wet fly cape/saddle based on a photo only, but not so much with dry fly hackle. I know it would be labor intensive, but if you could find a way to show the hackle barb length for a feather from a specific place on a given dry fly neck, it would go a long, long way. Being able to get an approximation on the number of Size #18 hackles I can expect to get from a neck is usually key for me.

I apologize if I gave the impression that I wanted someone to actually count the number of feathers; an order of magnitude estimate of the number of Size #18 hackles would be fine with me, and I could extrapolate on that number to give me a pretty good idea of what the rest of the neck has to offer.

I think seeing a photo of the individual capes etc... for sale is a huge plus. I am more inclined to buy, if I can see a good photo, especially up close.
