ThirdMeadow, Howdy;

I'll second everything Ray just said... Great post on the 'Other forum'.
You may have found the new 'Grail'.

Ray,
Thanks for the tip on William's Killer Bug post. I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't know parts of the forum (such as the Fishing Cabin) were invisible unless logged in. I had been looking in on the forum almost daily. But with nothing to post, I wasn't logged in through much of March. Doh! Part of being a newcomer, I guess.

William, you may have Killer Bug fever worse than me! Perhaps we should talk. I went through quite a few yarns (although fewer than you!) before finding the Berroco UAF1214. --Phil

Welcome to the flymphorum Phil. What do you think of a Tupskiller: blend a dubbing of rams scrotum wool with the 477. ;)

Greeting

Ruard

Fishing with Frank...

Yesterday I tested in southwestern Wisconsin some Sawyer Killer Bugs tied with the Ultra Alpaca Fine yarn. Two thumbs up! I fished a size #16 Killer Bug in tandem with a couple of my favorite wingless wets. The Killer Bug outfished a soft-hackled sow bug, and was on par with a soft-hackled pheasant tail (my #1 favorite fly).

The water:

Were mixed with quite a lot of these:

This was but a first outing with the new Killer Bug yarn, but the results were encouraging.

Lovely little stream and gorgeous fish. It reminds me a bit of Little Bohemia, but I suppose many of those driftless streams are similar.

Looks gorgeous! What for rod are you fishing if you don't mind me asking?

Tomorrow is opening day. . I'm going to try and get away from the crowds.

Phil, thanks for sharing your environs. That stretch looks like exceptional Flymph water. That seem just lays it out. looks like a perfect day to be there as well.

Yes, we need to talk about the killer bugs. You've done an extraordinary thing. Nice job.

I own a handful of bamboo rods that I use as conditions warrant. Yesterday was windy (15 mpg, gusting to 25 or 30), so I needed a pretty stout rod. The rod was a 7'9" 5wt made by Don Schroeder, a fairly well known maker from Wisconsin (and a helluva nice guy!). Under more gentle conditions, I use 4wt and 5wt rods of Charlie Jenkins or Bob Summers.

In what state is tomorrow opening day for you Smuggler? --Phil

Don makes some pretty rods. I've never casted one but, aestheticly they look amazing.

Opening day in Pennsylvania, Phil. Lots of water here to explore.
