In my fly tying package from the UK were a few small extras to try. One was a small strand of micro red tinsel which immediately caught my attention. So i tied a wingless wet to see how it looks...
My question is: Does anyone know and soft hackle wet fly patterns that call for red tinsel? I would love to see them, especially since I couldn't resist ordering a spool of micro red tinsel along with a purple spool as well.. Hopefully the trout are as big a sucker for red & purple tinsel as I am.
Another thought I have is because it is micro thin to caught some up in tiny pieces and blend into my dubbing mixes when desired.
Thanks.

Don't know about established patterns, John, but I would fish yours in a heartbeat.

John, that's a beaut. I haven't tied with red ribbing but I can certainly see the draw. Something to try.

I just received today 2 colors of 1/16" wide Sulky Tinsel which I want to use as ribbing smaller wet flies. I tried the tinsel with peacock (but not wingless, sorry

). Next I want to try it with a silk thread body and ribbed with the tinsel as wingless wets.

John - I look forward to seeing those. I have a whole set of Sulky colors to play with.
What hooks are these typed on? Love the proportions and hook bend.

I too enjoy using the Sulky/Gutterman tinsels. They withstand quite a bit of abuse as far as tinsel goes.
