Another BWO fly. I made the body out of CDC and the hackle is dun hen. Hook is a mustard RU-94842 #18.

That should sit nicely in the film. Well tied.

Brilliant design! CDC will sit nicely on the waters surface, and a silvery air bubble will form around the body, when it gets pulled under. Combined with the movements of the hen hackle collar, this pattern will look alive.

Simple. Yet brilliant. Very nice. ;)

By the way. What thread are you using? That head is tiny, especially considering it is tyed on a size 18.

Ray,

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to mention the thread. It is olive Semperfli nano silk 18/0 (30 denier) and I heavily waxed it with Overton's wonder wax.

Howdy All;

Would like to appreciate Otto's fly but, all I see is the word "image"
where it would be. :( .

EDIT: Otto, it showed up this afternoon!! Gorgeous bit of tying.

Personally I dislike CDC but I must admit using it for dubbing is a great idea. Since the female BWO adult swims or crawls to a rock to lay eggs in a air bubble and CDC traps air this is as I already wrote a great use of CDC
Thanks

My belief is that CDC under-utilized for wet flies.
Nice tie!

Nice tie!
The problem with CDC as we buy it is that it is devoid of any of its natural oils due to the cleaning and dyeing process. Once it is wet it goes totally soft and limp. Ask yourself why it was never used in any of the classic patterns when it was readily available. If treated with powder it works for a little while. Not so long ago Loon, I think it was Loon, sold CDC oil. I’m not sure if it was the real stuff or just silicon.

Partridge also sold CDC oil years ago!
