Seeing a lot of snelled flies (pre eyed hooks) has given me the preference for straight eyed hooks. When I began tying these flies many years ago I used coarse fishing hooks, Kamasan B525, which is the same as Daiichi 1480. They just look right when tying north country flies. For flymph style flies I can use de or ue, mostly de. H S Hall had done his deed before Big Jim started tying flies.

Not really. I have never noticed a difference in "catching" between the three. I tie on all 3 and it really just boils down to how I like the look of the fly to be. I do like the look of straight eye for spiders. An up eye just says "flymph". But for fishing, most of what I tie on is down eye.

I DO prefer up or straight eye hooks for most applications, for a couple of reasons. In smaller sizes the wider gap results in more hookups. And up eye hooks tend to ride "correctly" in the water giving a proper presentation. Oliver Edwards also noted this in one of his writings....
At any rate, the more hooks the merrier!!

I have some vintage Mustad 3913A 2x long in #13 and #16. Also Mustad 3980 in #14 and #9. As well as Mustad 31217 in #15.

The 3913A's and the 3980's are slightly reversed.

The 31217's are a limerick bend.

I'm not sure the wire but definitely heavier than the 94842.

What type of bend do you prefer?
All of the ones Carl mentioned are very good. I have a model with a limerick bend, 2x heavy Mustad, with a black Japan finish that is excellent, I just don’t remember the number. Plus some Herters Blackpool Nymph in size 10 & 12. Also have some old Partridge wich are quite nice. This evening when I get home I will dig them out and send you a picture.

Now that you said sproat bend, i have a couple in mind - Personally, I'm partial to the Limerick, and model perfect bends...
