Inspired by the classic Mosquito dry fly. One strand each black and white moose mane, 1-2 turns of partridge, Hanak 260BL.

Dang! That is a pretty pattern. I love how the mottling in the partridge hackle, mirrors/compliments the two-tone body.

Very nice!

Questions - Did you need to do anything special when using the moose mane fibers? Do they need to be soaked, or do they handle easily without soaking? Do you do anything to protect them?

Curious minds want to know... ;) :D

Thanks, guys. Letumgo- the moose mane is a fairly durable material. They can break when tying off, but like with starling, a little finesse goes a long way. I have never had one break when wrapping. I trim them an inch or two up from the tip, when they become thicker and the black or white color becomes solid. I wrap the two strands together. I also put few small drops of head cement on the tapered thread base just before wrapping the moose to help in durability. As far as durability when actually fishing- I have no idea! These are new. :)

Agree with hankinsfly on the moose mane durability. I tried these a few weeks ago with a peacock thorax and a silver badger hen feather. Two dark and one white strands of moose mane seem to work well for me

Hankinsfly, I really enjoy your flytying, like so many others' now posting their flies. These are clever.

That black and white moose mane wrap with a small throat hackle of partridge would make a killer black fly larva.
