Hello,
I am going to tie some Black and Purple soft hackle but am having some difficulty trying to find a suitable material for the purple body. May I ask what some of you have used for the body of this fly? Thank you.

Normally Pearsalls. I’m still trying to find a suitable substitute.

Most folk use a Purple silk. I use Purple UTC 70 or Uni 8/0. I think the ones I tie are pretty and sometimes the fish do as well.

I don't use silk for my flies just Uni as a rule. With the cost of everything going up, I would hate to replicate all my Uni thread with silk. Today I got a spool of purple Uni 8/0 but was thinking of using a floss for the body. Then I thought, with all the experienced tiers on here, why not go to the experts.
I even considered using a purple dubbed body which probably sounds sacrilegious to most on here. However, perhaps the trout would forgive me for not using silk... :D... my local shop doesn't even carry silk. A local craft store had sewing thread of silk but I wasn't sure it would be suitable.
Thank you for responding to my question as I appreciate it very much.

It is all good. Purple thread, purple floss, purple silk, purple herl (peacock or pheasant), purple dubbing. Nothing wrong with any of them.

raven4ns, take a look at a fly called the Madison Cabbage using the search on this forum. Yeah, it's purple ice dub and flash-a-bou for a tail. It's all good as long as the fish approve.

Thank you everyone for your kind advice. Even after 40 years of fly fishing I am still learning new things.

WOW!!! That is some fly. I would need sunglasses to tie that one, happily I just happen to have a pair of Raybans... . Would some kind soul please give me the recipe for this fly? We have some big browns up here so it should work here as well. Thank you.
