Here's the Madison Cabbage variant pattern (flymph style) that was responsible for the largest brown I took out of the Madison River during our Yellowstone rendezvous few years back ...

Hook: Vintage Mustad 94842, Size #10
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer #13, crimson
Hackle: Collins Hen Cape, black
Tail: Two (2) loops pearl Krytsal Flash
Tag: Tying thread
Body: UV Ice Dub, purple, spun in Pearsall's #!3 on Clark block
Head: Distinctive Leisenring cone of tying thread

Hi tie2fish,
I'm going to a fly shop tonight to get some purple Ice dub and floss to tie that pattern. You did yourself proud with that fly, hopefully I will be able to replicate a similar fly just not as well tied. Would you mind sending me your recipe, please?

I have edited the post to include the recipe ...

Thank you Bill for the recipe, bud, it is very much appreciated. REE gave me his recipe but I'm not sure it is the same one. I'll have a few tied by tomorrow and if it ever stops raining I may be able to get out fishing. Thanks again.

Bill - Thank you for adding the recipe. It is such a lovely dressing. (and one I plan to upscale for the local chromers - steelhead will crush this fly, no doubt about it)

I went to the shop and picked up a bag of purple ice dub. Dropped the black and used a wood duck flank feather instead. A big brown that broke the tippet before it made it to the net smashed it on the swing a few weeks ago.

Hi Theroe,
I'm not familiar with that term "shucked". I suspect that you are teasing me which is fine by me :) . It's fun to tease and torment with friends and this forum has treated me as a friend which greatly pleases me.

raven4ns, Howdy;

When you wrote " I'm not familiar with that term "shucked". " you neglected to
spell Shucked with a capitol S as would be proper for someone's last name such
as, ... perhaps, Bill Shuck ??? A play on words as it were... :lol:
