I have a pheasant skin that I tried to use, but the hackle was too long. No matter where I pulled the feather from. But I now learned how to work with that, and now I know what to tie.

The claret and the peacock look brilliant together.

Great pattern, great tie! Love both the colors and the proportions. Now where's my claret silk....

Hay, Ray,

I had a go at this beauty. Mine isn't so pretty. Probably over hackled and I think the thorax is too short. Your thoughts please.

Ron,

I'm happy you gave these a try. I love the look of the open spiral rib, and the overall profile. The ringneck hackle is a bit stiffer than other game birds. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to shape the collars, when using it. I tend to tye in the feathers by the stem and wrap backwards, but may get better results by using a 'tip-tyed" method. How did you do yours?

What make hooks is that? Very cool iron.

Ray, Tied in by the stem and wrapped back on the hackle. I do most of my hackle that way. The hook is a Daiichi 1130. The wire is a bit light, but it should fish well in the top 12 inches or so of the water column. I am a sucker for all things claret, one of my favorite colors.
