Dyed Hare's Ear

Ray's "Frayed knot" post brought back to mind what I do if I need a limited amount of dyed hare's ear for certain dubbings.
Edmonds' & Lee's March Brown 8b calls for: "Orange silk, No. 6a, dubbed with the fur from the nape of a rabbit's neck which has been lightly tinged red with Cranshaw's Red Spinner dye,"
I simply take a red permanent marker and rub it on a small patch of the lighter hare's ear fur and then trim it off the mask to mix in a coffee grinder to make the dubbing I use in the 8b dressing.

Bob - Thanks for sharing this technique. I love the results you get with the blended dubbing. Very nice color.

For years, in addition to some Pantone pen-dyed dubbing, I've plucked some fur from a dyed red hare's mask and then used that fur as the dubbing for some red-colored bodies. So last week, I ordered a cheap beard trimmer to "shave" the red (and natural hare's masks).
Found the natural masks in my stash but the old red dyed bunny mask appears to have hopped away and is hiding. For the life of me, I cannot figure out where that darned red bunny could be!

Bob,
Perhaps the pastor or the elderly gentleman kidnapped the red wabbit
and are holding it hostage until you send a ransom of cracklebacks!
