Peewit / Lapwing Hackles
I'd like to tie a few of Pritt's "Olive Bloa Spiders" but "Peewit / Lapwing" hackles aren't in my hackle inventory and doubtfully, ever will be. Anyone have a sub that they use? Are the Peewit / Lapwing hackles "protected"? Thanks.

Roger Fogg suggests using a French partridge marginal covert feather colored with a Pantone pen.

Perhaps a woodduck skin would provide a suitable replacement.

I was wondering if a Moorhen hackle might be close?

Chukar are easy to find and are basically the same as French partridge for fly tying purposes.
Re: Peewit / Lapwing Hackles
I plucked a few smoky, gray feathers from a Valley Quail skin. Will soak them in some hot water and turmeric and see if they'll turn slightly a olive color.

At this very moment, they are drying on a couple paper towels.

Here's what they look like after a couple hours in the turmeric solution and then dried. Might not be able to see in this pic, but they have a very slight olive tint to the hackles. Will use to tie some Olive Bloas.
