Hatching Dun March Brown Soft Hackles

Post by joaniebo » Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:51 pm

Tied these quite awhile back after seeing a YouTube video and think it's one of the prettiest soft hackles I've ever tied. Unfortunately, I've given most of them away and will have to tie a few moe in the near future.

I like the contrasting materials; what did you use for the thorax dubbing?

To be honest, I forget which exact dubbing i used but it was either Hareline STS Tribal Dub Red, j Fair's Red Seal Sub, or Fish hunter Angora Goat Dyed Red. Side by side, they all have pretty much the same texture and color.

Nicely done.

Bob,
These are sweet looking and so buggy to boot! What else are you up to?

Tying a few soft hackles with dyed red hare's ear for the body and a hackle with a grey color near the stem and a honey / light brownish color at the tips. Then going to do a few with my Tup's dubbing mix and a Golden Plover Hackle.

Bob,
You are such a lucky fellow (Golden Plover owner) and a creative one too! I cannot wait to see the pattern you described come to life! Please post them as soon as you create them!
This is exciting stuff! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the compliment. The red hare's ear dubbing with a honey dun hackle fly is pictured in another of my posts. I'll probably start tying the Golden Plover and Tup's dubbed fly later this week.
