Peacock spiders

Just playing around with a few spider designs using peacock dyed dun color.

Fully clothed.

Strip show. (took an eraser to part of the herl and left some on for the thorax)

Naked.

Those are very nice. I've got some bleached peacock I need to play around with; thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks Scott. I had some bleached which is just a bit lighter than these but the herl kept breaking or splitting on me. Maybe a bad bleach job? I did try soaking it a bit but didn't help much.

Lots of other colors though to play with. I haven't really worked with stripped herl before. Chalked it up to the dry fly patterns mostly.

Carl, I don't believe I've seen a body tied with a half stripped peacock herl. That's a really interesting effect and a fun fly to tie. These are great. I'm looking at my overstuffed boxes and dying for a reason to tie more soft-hackles, this might be just the thing. excellent.

Hi Carl, I like a stripped peacock herl body as well but it's a royal pain stripping them even with an eraser. I've never dyed them or anything else but it's a neat looking fly, bud. Well done!!
