Dark Blow 1842

Another old fly from Robert Smith's The North Country Fly that I have to fish, from Joseph Wells 'The Wharf Dale List'.

"The Dark Blow
From under the water hen's wing, yellow silk, water rat's down on body."

Hook -Wholesale Fly Company Model 21 #12
Thread-Kimono Yellow Silk touch dubbed with Kit Muskrat belly fur
Hackle- Feather from under a Moorhen's wing

Next year I will be comparing my recent 1800's yellow flies with my old standbys the Gray Hackle Yellow, Partridge and Yellow and my yellow flymphs that have mainly replaced the P&Y for me in hatches of PMDs and PEDs.

This fly in particular seems to be a very old Flymph in my book. ;) :)
