Partridge & Orange

Post by Roadkill » Sun Mar 19, 2023 3:51 pm

This is a blast from the past. ;) I never tied on this hook before but most of my flies in the 50's and early 60's were tied on Herter's hooks. About 20 of these hooks were in my tyers packet at the NW Expo this year, in the original broken box with the label for the PERFECTED 303 BARBLESS HOOK at a cost of $2.55.

Hook-Herter's 303 #14
Thread- Orange Kimono Silk
Rib- SM Copper Ultra Wire
Hackle-Brown Partridge

Looking forward to testing this combination! :D

What an unusual hook. Has anyone fished with these? I’m curious to know how well they work. “Perfected” implies that they were better than barbed hooks. My first thought was to wonder if the bend would impede hook penetration.

Thanks for sharing an interesting hook with us Bill. Lovely fly.

This hook needs to be the focus of a Peyronie's disease ad campaign.

Oh my gosh Mike! That is supremely funny! You've got a whacky sense of humor! :P :D
Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.
