White Witch
Another one from Roger Woolley's 'Modern Trout Fly Dressing', under 'Grayling flies'.
White Witch by GlassJet, on Flickr
Roger Woolley grayling fly. Hook: Kamasan B410 #14. Thread: Olive uni thread. :
Tag: red silk floss. Body: green peacock herl. Hackle: white cock (Yokahama saddle soft feather cock here) Rib: silver wire.
The strand of claret seal's fur shouldn't be there, btw! lol
Crit welcome btw - the patterns in Woolley's book are text only, so I have no idea what this should look like! I guess the barbs are a bit too long, are they?
Andrew.

Re: White Witch
I like this one a lot, Andrew. The color combination reminds me of the "Royal" series of flies.

You have to ask the fish. If the hackle is on the soft side I don't think it matters. It would be a tasty fluttering something. If it's stiff I would have problem to hook a grayling. Since you have tied it for us it's all right. I don't have a cape that light. Now I know why I have always wanted one.

I wish I had a cape like that. I don't have much of that hackle left at all - it was from one of the Yokahama chickens my friend used to keep - one of the many she lost to the mink.daringduffer wrote: I don't have a cape that light. Now I know why I have always wanted one.

Re: White Witch
Some animal activists "freed" 13800 minks from a farm in a trout stream area last week. Just think of all the damage. One trapped mink equals 400$ worth of trout fry per year. Not to speak of other victims.

Had some of those 'Activists" do the same thing here in Utah 2 yrs. ago. Not so many got out, but, the "Friends" of the critters let them out of their climate controled environment in the middle of winter. Temps. were down to - 20 or so at night. Found a few 'mink-cikles' over the next few days.

Mink-cicles!
I don;t know what it is that really motivates the people who do these kinds of thing, but the last thing it is is a genuine concern for animal welfare. It always seems rather more a bitterness towards their fellow Man, to me.

These folks are daft if you ask me. The incident that best reflects this view was the one where they released a batch of lobsters "liberated" from a seafood store and neglected to take the rubber bands off the claws .
