Jackdaw and Purple by GlassJet, on Flickr

Hook: Kamasan B981. #14 Silk: Pearsall's purple, waxed. Hackle: Jackdaw neck. Thorax: mole, twisted into split thread.

Anticipating next trout season, and iron blue.

This is tied in hackle first by the way, and am total convert now - so thanks for the help, Carl, Mark, Jim, willowhead, Ray - and anyone else who nudged me in this direction! I remember Roy trying to get me to tie like this, but I just couldn't get it at the time...

Anyone wanna buy a nasal hair zapper, slightly used? ;)

Andrew.

Damn nice fly Andrew! If I had to describe it in a single word, I'd say "Perfect".

You're a quick study in addition to being a fine dresser, Mr Jet. That's a wonderful fly.

I've look at this fly many times and all I can say is what Ray said, "perfect". There isn't a thing I would change about it save it's location, from your fly box to mine. Classic looking tie.

Perfect? Come on guys. The barb is obscured by the holder so I can't be certain, but I would swear that one additional wrap of the silk would extend the body length to the point of the barb, if the barb is bent down. Also, are those fingerprints on the bend of the hook? Come on Gents, lets raise the bar a little. :P

Actually one of the nicest spiders I've seen. Thanks for posting such a great example. Again, the use of Jackdaw I found difficult. Nice to see it done so well.

That model hook is barbless ;)

Thanks for all the kind comments everybody. Once again this forum has encouraged me to 'go up a gear' with my fly tying. I've always thought that if you want to get better at something, then hang around with the best people who will have you. So, thanks for having me! ;)
